SUMMARY:Schneider Cup 100th Anniversary Victory Lap (W48)
DESCRIPTION:100 years ago\, on 26 October 1925: Jimmy Doolittle won the Coupe d’Aviation Maritime Jacques Schneider (commonly called the Schneider Trophy) and made history flying his Curtiss R3C-2 float plane over a 217-mile course at Bay Shore Park (Now North Point Park) near Baltimore\, Maryland.\nThe Schneider Trophy\, was an international air racing competition for seaplanes held from 1913 to 1931\, aimed at promoting advancements in aviation technology. It became famous for speed records and significantly influenced aircraft design\, particularly the Supermarine Spitfire which traces its roots to the Supermarine racers..\nThe USA hosted the international race in 1925 after having won in 1923 and Baltimore was chosen to be the site. The triangular Schneider race course stretched from Bay Shore Park to Baltimore Harbor Light near Gibson Island to the south and across Chesapeake Bay to Huntingfield Point (just south of Rock Hall). Contestants had to fly the 31-mile course seven times.\nDoolittle’s average speed for the seven laps around the triangular racecourse was 232.57 miles per hour (374.29 kilometers per hour). Beating the British and Italian competition\nOn the following day\, Doolittle set the World Record for Speed Over a 3 Kilometer Course of 245.75 miles per hour\nThe race was a huge international event\, Orville Wright himself came to watch\, and the victory made Doolittle a national celebrity.\nThe Essex Skypark Association (N48) and EAA chapter 143 will be celebrating the centenary of the great race at the annual Wings and Wheels Fly in just a few miles from the original race site .\nThe event starts at 9am and goes all day with food vendors and exhibits .\nAt 11 am Dr. Jeremy Kinney \, who oversaw the restoration of the Curtiss R3C Racer from the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum will be giving a presentation about the significance of this local event in aviation history\nAnd if you want to be part of history\, any pilot that traces Doolittle’s route around the course that day (at any speed they want) will receive a commemorative patch.\nSo come on out and fly a victory lap with us in the footsteps of the great Jimmy Doolittle . Orville Wright might not show up to watch you do it but I’m sure he will be there in spirit.

SUMMARY:Harold Neumann Day Fly-in (K34)
DESCRIPTION:Come enjoy good food and good folks\, hangar talking\, and flying at a great little airport as we celebrate a great pilot who was one of our own\, Harold Neumann.\n\n\nHarold used to throw a fly-in in October at his private strip in south KC\, where he would often have hay bales set up as bleachers and a fire going if it was cold outside. At this get-together\, he would sometimes do pylon racing demonstrations. To commemorate those times\, VAA 16 has periodically thrown our Harold Neumann Day fly-in. So come and enjoy a laid-back day at K34. Hopefully\, the weather is great so people can fly.\nBreakfast served at 7:30 Burgers and Dogs at 11:30.

SUMMARY:Annual Lone Pine Fly-in (O26)
DESCRIPTION:October 17-18-19 – Lone Pine Airport\, CA (O26)\nOnline registration window open\nAugust 10 1700PDT – August 15 1700 PDT\n>>>> Register Here <<<< \nNew for 2025: Due to high demand and limited capacity of this event\, registering will place attendees in a lottery. Final selections will be communicated in late-August. \nFly into the beautiful Lone Pine Airport (O26)\, under the shadow of Mount Whitney\, in California’s Owens Valley for this 6th annual weekend of aviation fellowship\, local fly-outs\, and fun. Come enjoy a different side of California—one that is less connected to the Pacific Coast and more connected culturally and geographically to the interior American West. \nThis backcountry-flying weekend is centered around camaraderie and flying. Uniquely\, pilots attending have the chance to fly their planes on organized fly-outs to several of the dozens of remote backcountry airstrips that dot the surrounding region. \nOfficial events and arrivals commence Friday 17th to allow time for pilots to register\, set up camp\, and familiarize themselves with Saturday’s fly-out adventure plans. Plan to be on deck in Lone Pine no later than 1600L on Friday to facilitate getting through the check-in process and to attend the mandatory fly-out briefing Friday night. The fly-outs will be tailored to aircraft and pilot abilities based upon the information provided in the online registration with final rosters assigned during the day Friday. \nEarly Saturday morning\, fly-out groups led by local pilots will depart Lone Pine to each visit various desert and mountain airstrips. On these journeys pilots can learn about the local backcountry scene and experience the raw beauty and unique geography of the High Sierras\, Death Valley\, Mojave Desert\, and Great Basin. \nSaturday concludes with all groups returning to Lone Pine in the evening for debriefings\, food\, and camaraderie. Some groups may also elect to stop by Independence Airport (2O7) before returning to Lone Pine to enjoy locally made delicacies at the Eastern Sierra Ice Cream Company! \nSunday will be departure day. Lookout for announcements of potential “on your way home” mini fly-out adventures.

SUMMARY:Grapevine Airstrip Monthly Weekend Campout/Fly-in (88AZ)
DESCRIPTION:Friday night: Camp out under the stars! \nSaturday Night:  Join us to camp under the stars and tell stories around the group campfire! Camp host will prepare the main course. Campers\, please bring a side dish or dessert to share. \nSunday: Most folks depart by noon \nATTN: Please\, no motor vehicles\, other than APA and USFS support vehicles\, are permitted past the gate at the highway. This is a closed area and only aircraft access is allowed. Help us keep our commitment to the USFS! \n\nThe Arizona Pilots Association has done an incredible job saving and rehabilitating Grapevine Airstrip (88AZ).  Located on the south shore of Roosevelt Lake\, the approach to runway 17 is beautiful.  It gives the boaters on the lake a close-up view of many different aircraft as they land on the fantastic asphalt runway.  At 3\,800 feet long\, this allows most aircraft to check it out. \nI am here to invite those interested to enjoy the backcountry flying\, camping\, and great camaraderie.  On the third Saturday of the month from October to April\, Grapevine has a hosted weekend fly in and camping.  Although not everyone is able to come in on Friday\, there are a few of us that wouldn’t miss it.  I am glad to tell the Friday crowd that the restaurant in Roosevelt is open again and under new management. \nOn Saturday\, there are plenty of members and non-members that fly in and love to talk planes\, airstrips\, and other exciting adventures!  I want to encourage everyone to come out and join us.  Watch out for Mike Andresen\, there is always something to clean up or work on\, and the Grapevine airstrip is maintained only though donations and volunteer help. \nAlso\, why not stay overnight?  The weekend host(s) will provide the dinner’s main meal and the sides are brought by the other campers.  This results in a fantastic\, scrumptious\, heavenly\, yummy\, luscious\, divine\, tasty\, mouth-watering meal with beautiful scenery and wonderful sunsets.  In September\, Jupiter was rising over the eastern mountain range\, competing with Venus in the western sky. \nThere will be some additions to the weekend.  Coming this year\, we will have corn hole competitions and other fun activities.  Also\, how good are you at making a paper airplane?  Will it fly?  How well will it fly?   Won’t you come and join us?  Want to be a host?  I’ve had many other suggestions\, but I would love to hear from you\, too. \nLeanne

SUMMARY:13th Annual My Place Fly-in (3OH7)
DESCRIPTION:Rain or shine\, join us for a fun filled day on the farm; airplanes\, great food (our emphasis is on quality) and entertainment for all ages. Unless you are a pilot flying in please bring a side dish which will be shared when lunch is served.\n\n\nWe are only four weeks away from the annual “My Place” fly in; “Always the second Sunday in October”. This year we are planning an even better breakfast and lunch. Joe and Lynn want to make sure that each breakfast is prepared to order\, therefore\, we will be in the kitchen cooking and greeting our guests. We’ll be serving thick cut bacon\, Joe’s extra special French toast\, Delmar’s homemade wood fired oven biscuits and homemade sausage gravy\, farm fresh sausage\, eggs to order\, Gary’s Yukon Gold home fried potatoes with or without onions. Our French toast and pancakes with fresh blueberries and pecans (or chocolate chips and sprinkles for the young and young at heart) will be served hot off the griddle. A two-gallon syrup warmer/dispenser will ensure that your pan cakes and French toast receive the hot syrup that they deserve. It may require a short wait in line\, but we encourage you to find someone that you don’t know and talk to them. Our emphasis is on quality\, not speed.\n\n\nThis year for lunch we are serving hamburgers made with locally raised fresh ground beef from Hoffman’s Custom Meats in Cardington. Ken and Jeanine Vaughn’s famous chili will also be served. Top it all off with some of the many side dishes that each of you bring. Beginning late morning we will serve ice cream at the pond area near the kid’s activities–kids first please. Last year we served 900 meals and expect a larger number this year. We’re not as big as the Morrow County or Ohio State Fair yet but with your help we have potential. Donations will be gladly accepted to help support the cost of food for our growing event.\n\n\nWHILE YOU’RE HERE:\nVisit our local artisans\, wood carvings\, hot air engine\, kid’s activities and lots of airplanes\, antique cars and tractors (look but please do not touch the airplanes\, tractors\, classic and antique cars.\n\n\nCHANGES:\nIn the interest of safety\, we are moving some of the activities and serving line away from the front (southwest end) of the main hangar and to the back side (northeast) of the hangar and away from the approach end of runway 06. Additionally\, we have installed a pedestrian bridge from the parking area that will keep foot traffic away from the approach end of runway 6 and avoid inbound cars coming into the car park. If you don’t use the shuttle\, please use the new bridge if walking to/from the hangar.\n\n\nThree new restrooms have been added to the end of the newly constructed hangars in that area. The white doors are regular rest rooms. The gray door is a family-friendly restroom with a kid size and adult toilet along with a baby changing station.\n\n\nA new mobile coffee service has been added to ensure that you can enjoy a hot cup of coffee while you wait in line to reach the serving area. Our emphasis is on quality\, not speed\n\n\nSIDE DISHES:\nA drop off area has been established in the hangar\, and our volunteers will be there to take (and serve) your side dishes\, deserts\, pop or bottled water. We’ll have stations to accommodate both hot (crock pots) and cold side dishes including limited oven space for those sides dishes that need to be reheated.\n\n\nSAFETY:\nPILOTS: The runway (06/24) is 2100 feet long with 600 feet of clear way from the tree line at the northeast end. The power lines have been buried along Coleman Road (Township 152) at the southwest end of the runway. A new\, larger windsock has been placed mid field.\n\n\nThe field elevation is 1000 feet ASL. Traffic pattern altitude is 1000 feet AGL for fixed wing and 500 feet AGL for helicopters.\n\n\nThe CTAF will be 122.90 for the fly-in in accordance with the AIM\, 4-1-9 “Where there is no tower\, FSS\, or UNICOM station on the airport\, use MULTICOM frequency 122.9 for self-announce procedures.”\n\n\nFly a standard left hand traffic pattern for both 6 and 24. Be advised that helicopters may be operating to and from an area on the north side of the runway near the pond. Transient helicopters should also park in the area north of the runway.\n\n\nAircraft “FOLLOW ME” vehicles will be directing parking during the busy early morning hours.\n\n\nGUEST SAFETY AND TRANSPORTATION:\nThere is a designated runway crossing area for pedestrians near the hangar. Crossing guards will be stationed on each side of the crossing area to assist with safe runway crossings. Additionally\, this year we are going to provide a continuous shuttle service from the car parking area (including handicap assistance) to the hangar and kids’ area activities.\n\n\nKIDS ACTIVITIES:\nPumpkin painting (take home your painted prize pumpkin)\, milking cow trainer\, train rides\, hayrides\, corn pit\, face painting\, swings\, slides\, petting zoo and ice cream.\n\n\nCAR AND PHONE NAVIGATION SYSTEMS:\nIf you are driving to the fly in use this address for your phone\, tablet or car nav system:\n3177 Coleman Road\nCardington OH 43315\nUnited States\n\n\n‘Look for the fly in signs at the corner of Township Road 152 (Coleman Road) and Route 42.\n\n\nIf you are driving in from the south; from the only stoplight in Ashley\, Ohio proceed exactly 4.7 miles north on Route 42 then turn left on Township Road 152 and continue for 1/2 mile to the fly in.\n\n\nIf you are driving in from the north; from the stoplight in Cardington\, Ohio proceed south on Route 42 for 3 miles and turn right on Township Road 152 and continue for 1/2 mile to the fly in.\n\n\nPARKING AND TRANSPORTATION:\nAll parking (except Corvettes and antiques) will be on the west side of Coleman Road (near the yellow wind tee). This is a change from years past. The parking crew will direct you to\nparking. Transportation will be provided continuously from parking to the hangar using our new handicap accessible people mover\, antique Model A truck\, Polaris run-about and maybe a golf cart or two. Antique and classic cars will be parked on the (northeast) end of the hangar. Handicap parking will be provided near the hangar.\n\n\nYou’re in our data base so look for updates by email and Facebook (My Place 3OH7). That’s 3OH (as in Ohio)7 which is the four-letter aviation identifier for the My Place airfield. Lots of airplanes\, helicopters\, people and good food\, kid’s activities and family-friendly fun in a rural setting. Just a fun way for us to give something back to aviation\, friends and neighbors.\n\n\n‘Hope to see you on Sunday\, October 12th\,\n\n\nJoe and Lynn\n\n\nP.S. IF YOU DRIVE IN\, PLEASE BRING A SIDE DISH!
