Annual Abel Island Fly-in (IA23)

Annual Abel Island Fly-in, Float-in, Potluck BBQ! This year we want to make, what has become one of the Midwest’s most popular fly-in events, even better. First, it will be the 25th year, but this year it will also be your host’s, Gary and Marcia Fisher, 50th wedding anniversary. To help us celebrate we are going to make sure that EVERY pilot that flies in will receive one of our very special door prizes. As those that have been here before know, we give away the good stuff! In the past we have had such prizes as YETI Abel Island personalized mugs, embroidered Abel Island polo shirts, Abel Island insulated back packs, etc. This year we have some really special prizes, again, for every pilot that flies in.

Even though the event is officially from Noon to 3:00, we encourage pilots to fly in the evening before and/ or stay the evening after to camp under your wing or on our sandy beach with fire pit, outdoor hot water shower, and portable restroom. Remember that this is a noon-time potluck BBQ. It is not your usual morning pancake breakfast. We have some excellent chefs as part of our Island Airpark family that come with items such as slow-roasted pork loin, wood-fired chicken legs, and many other delicious items to share. Let’s see what you bring to throw on our ready-to-cook grills. Two housekeeping notes: We would love to have more pilots join our airpark family by purchasing a home on the Island. To that end, there are two homes presently for sale. There will be an open house 1-5 for one of them. Please feel free to check it out. Second, we do ask that any aerobatic or smoke displays be done over that river rather than the airfield itself.
